Certainly, there are many unknown things in the deep places of the world; and unlike giant spiders that cannot exist in our modern atmosphere due to their volume-to-surface-area ratio, there is not any particularly restrictive physical limit on the size to which aquatic creatures can grow, these things generally bounded only by food availability and habitat size. For a creature in the ocean, that can mean some potentially impressive sizing. The same is true albeit to a rather lesser extent in jungles, of course.Michaels regales us with many anecdotes, and does not censor them for credibility even, for example, when tales of spotting giant dinosaurs in America are recounted by Young Earth Creationists who refer in their account to how science and evolution say they died out four billion (sic) years ago, leaving it all to the reader.A quick note on the editing: this is the second-worst edited book I’ve read. Missing spaces, missing punctuation, repeated sections of text, and sentences cut-off mid-phrase abound. It’s not so bad as to impede comprehension, though, just a little jarring and calls into question attention to detail. However, all-in-all, the book is an entertaining read, with no pretensions of science but plenty of tall tales and open questions (some credible, some less so, all engaging reading).
As a follow up to his first book, People are Seeing Something, Denver Michaels now presents the curious reader with Water Monsters South of the Border. This book further examines those creatures that may or may not lurk beneath the waters of countless lakes. In this compelling book, the author explores the many myths and legends associated with various creatures of the deep, some that we are wildly afraid of, and other only mildly curious about. There are enough grisly creatures to keep us entertained and guessing from the giant burrowing snake to living dinosaurs to fish that seem to eat men. Plenty here to go around and wonder about the veracity of rumours or if these tales are just plain old hoaxes. Nevertheless, with a solid amount of references, and enough personal experience and research, the author presents a solid argument. Photos and illustrations add to the interest of this book as well.
Aren't we all a little afraid of the water? And not just because of "Jaws" which kept us out of the ocean for a while. There is a mystery to the deep and we have a certain trepidation about it. Author Denver Michaels explores the myths and legends of assorted water monsters from South & Central America and Mexico in this captivating book. From giant burrowing snakes to living dinosaurs to man-eating fish and other horrors, he makes us a part of the discovery. Sure, some stories are hoaxes and he calls them out. But other things... well, they just make you think there's something there. A fun and frightening read.
Water Monsters- but this time in South. The author is set on the mission to study the myths, legends and eyewitness reports of water monsters in the South. There is adventure, thriller, horror, disturbing facts/Myths, history and knowledge base in the book presented by author using arguments based on research.
“Water Monsters….†is a very in-depth and well-researched book about creatures that lurk in the waters. Sea creatures that could be pre-historic and certainly are not timid are the main features of this book. There are a lot of historical references, first-person encounters and the good old hoaxes to keep you interested in reading but wary about going out into the deep waters. Informative and well-written.
Read the author's first book as well and together, they cover the western continents.A bit of repetition in this book as, of course, water monsters north and south have many similarities and may be the same creatures.Recommended for those who love cryptozoolohy, or just good monster tales.
Gullible does not even begin to describe this author.
