Gary Thomas is a writer in residence at Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, and an adjunct faculty member teaching on spiritual formation at Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon and Houston Theological Seminary in Houston, Texas. This is a good book, but not exactly what I was looking for. My husband and I will be married two years this year and I'm just looking for a weekly devotional we can do together... This book seems to be focused more towards couples who have been married a long, long time and have issues. Maybe a few years down the road it'll be more useful.
One of the best marriage devotionals we have read as a couple. Short and to the point and strengthens the marriage spiritually.... first..... before getting into some nitty gritty issues. We are encouraged every time we read it together AND I have bought numerous copies as gifts to encourage other marriages. We have been married 35 years and this is a must have!
I bought this for a friend for Christmas and didn't know she had pinned it on Pinterest - she said it is amazing! Definitely helped improve a few things in their marriage. She advised it brought them closer in ways they didn't know they were apart, helped them close some things that were ongoing, and address some things they didn't know were issues. Per my married friends, they definitely recommend this book!
I did a lot of research to find a devotional that I thought would be a good fit for me and my husband. Settled on this one, and I'm so glad!Gary Thomas presents concise yet very thought-provoking material. We are about halfway through, and it has sparked many a great conversation for us already. Also, as a result, I often find myself doing a lot of personal reflection on the spouse I am and how I can continue to strive to improve.The length of each individual devotional is perfect, I'd say three pages on average. We tend to spend about 10 to 15 minutes (between reading and subsequent discussion) on one.
My husband and I love this book. He reads me a chapter every night. It aligns so close with what I perceive God requires of us as married Christians.
I love it. I do wish it had a prayer to be offered at the end of each devotional. So, I'm using the "Thirty One Prayers for My Wife" by Aaron and Jennifer Smith to complement it. Great Devotional resource.
Not a bad book, however, I wish the devotions would include questions to lead to discussion points between couples
This is a great book. Love the writing and the way each chapter is delivered. We used this in our home small group as a weekly couples devotion. Each chapter has a great message that is great at stimulating relevant and valuable conversations between couples and in a small group setting.
