Using this to track where I'm going to move to (hopefully). I absolutely must get out of Minnesota if its the last thing I do! This map is a great size and good detail for placing pins on my research of where to live!
Was not crushed in transport. I initially disliked the idea that it was laminated, but could not find this size map any other way. Now I'm really glad that it is. It didn't occur to me how much we, and others would lean in and touch the map. Imagine the dirty, greasy fingerprints that would have left!We also found an extremely affordable way to frame it out. Just by happenstance, we were at Home Depot and we saw large pieces of Styrofoam used for insulation larger than the map itself. It cost us less than $8. We cut the foam down and spray mounted the map directly onto the silver side of the Styrofoam. Bought thin pieces of wood to frame out the map and then hot glued those pieces to the edge of the map/foam. Not only do we have a very lightweight map that won't weigh down our wall, the foam allows us to still use pins to mark our destinations. We researched investing in an actual frame, cork board backing, foamcore boards, etc. All were expensive options.This alternative was extremely cost effective and looks great!
I bought this poster and the World poster at the same time to hang on the office wall at home so we can tack the places we've been! We purchased a few poster frames and cork from our local craft store and tacking places has been a fun learning activity for our kids! My photo review of the posters might help to show the actual size.
This map was purchased to replace a map I had give my son in 2003. The original map was destroyed in a house fire last Feb. My son was badly hurt so his "things" were of no concern early on. He made an incredible come back, he's back into a new place. He's fully recovered and he's back to work. In his recovery journey he is now rebuilding. That map I had given him so many years ago turned out to be something he missed. He asked for replacement and since the map was given to me prior to my giving it to my son, IDK where it originated. I came to Amazon first, saw this map, and from what I could see it looked the same. My son said it's smaller than the original one and didn't include the smaller cities but was otherwise very similar. He was happy and sent me a photo of it on his wall. This is a prime example of how the smaller things in life can truly matter. Thanks for reading if got this far.
Wonderful map. Arrived in a protective clear tube. I really enjoy the level of detail (national monuments/parks are often identified on the map as well). I purchased this and a framed pebbled cork (from Board Dudes found on Amazon here: Board Dudes 35 x 46 Inches Dual Effex Premium Pebbled Cork Board with 2-Tone Frame (12784) ) to create a great family travel map for our home.
Very happy with this laminated map. I got it to help visualize/plan several trips this year as we are in the college search process. It is fairly thin, but I have not found that to affect the quality of the product. I use vis-a-vis pens to map our routes, they are easy to see and wipe off cleanly. The map is big enough to easily see major cities in each state and see the state boundaries, but is not large enough to map out routes on specific roads...you'll need a more detailed map for that. I like that there is also plenty of room in the border for me to make notes as to length of drive time between our stops...it just gives a handy overview of the plans.
I wanted a map to frame and hang in my living room. I like being able to reference places on the news as well as having a reference for conversations that involve traveling. (For some reason I have those conversations a lot.) But I also wanted something that DIDN'T look like it belongs in a 5th-grade social studies classroom. This map is perfect for that. It's very pleasing to the eye and feels more like a "grown up" map than most of the ones I've seen that use different solid colors to separate the states. It's also very nice to have the bordering parts of Canada and Mexico visible.The level of detail is very nice. I've lived in a few very small towns and most of them are actually listed on this map! The font choice is excellent as well.I will agree with another reviewer who said that it's somewhat difficult to find or follow the names of mountain ranges. That's really my only knock against it. To be fair though, there's only so much room, and I personally care more about being able to read the roads, towns, lakes and state names than the mountain ranges.
I certainly can't say this is the best map in the world but for the price it is great. Someone had mentioned dull color but I do not see an issue with the color of this map and I believe it is pretty accurately displayed on my computer screen. The lamination serves its purpose as a thin protector. This map also has more detail than the previous one I had, which displayed Fairbanks as the only city in Alaska. I also like the road numbers.The only thing I had an issue with was the size. I thought it was 2ft x 3ft but it ended up being more like 20 inches by 32 inches.
This is a fabulous map that can either be tacked up on the wall in the classroom or mounted in an expensive frame and still pull it off. The detail is pretty amazing as well, the cities are so on-point that even my tiny home town is listed. An easy diy project for the weekend I rubber cemented several cork board tiles to a piece of plywood, cemented the map to the top and polyurethaned it all. Add some stained and polyed decorative molding and wa la! You have an expensive looking piece of art ready to chart your journeys for less than $100.
