I owned the paperback of this book. I'm so glad it's on kindle I purchased that too. Anne Carson has delivered a treatise- very readable- on Eros and its meanings throughout the ages. Anne Carson -- anything by her is on my A reading list.
Even though Amazon wants me to treat this book as a piece of fiction, it's really a lyrical essay, so things like pace, mood, and character development are not the right way to judge this incredible exploration of desire.
This book is wonderful! Very engaging and thought-provoking. The author develops her points very well and uses examples that can act as reading recommendations for the future.
Anne Carson is a dazzling intellect, deeply rooted in the timeless landscape of the classics, Sappho, et al. Yet, her mind and engagement with the language is bold and contemporary.
Most enjoyable -
Words, desires entertwine. Rememberance of history and romance. Enjoy it slowly, this is not a work to rush through. Read and re-read.
